As we look out on the year ahead, it is easy to conclude that there are only storm clouds on the economic horizon. So, what are we to think when people start interpreting bad news as good?

A person I recently had coffee with remarked, "The best news I've heard lately is that the recession started a year ago." Her point was that we might already be at least halfway through the downturn. While it may be a bit early for outright optimism, I see several positives that could benefit investors in the year ahead. These are the incoming Obama administration, the lessons learned from past market catastrophes, and the prevailing negative psychology of investors. The last point refers to the notion that once everyone expects bad news, it can actually be good for the markets.

Though November now seems like a long time ago, I still recall the feelings of hope and elation people had following the election of Barack Obama. His victory felt like the first step into a more promising future while also marking a decisive conclusion to the last few dismal years. Regardless of individual political persuasions, optimism for the future is important. It gives us reason to keep going in the face of difficulty.

The incoming administration will be one of the best prepared in memory and will be quick to introduce legislation. Mr. Obama's economic stimulus package will likely approach one trillion dollars. Sometimes large numbers can lose their significance, but I can tell you, a one with 12 zeros after it is big!

We can also take comfort in the fact that the federal government and central banks have gained insights from the Great Depression and from the painfully slow unwinding of Japan's real estate bubble. Though each of these periods in history has its own unique set of circumstances, two points seem salient. Actions required to adequately address problems of such magnitude should be swift and substantial. Thus far, the actions of the world's central banks and governments indicate that they understand this.

When trying to predict what may happen tomorrow or next week people tend to extrapolate from current circumstances. So, as we experience a bad economy we expect it to continue to be that way. Today the consensus view is that the economy and markets will get worse before they get better. Here is where investor psychology comes into play; once a majority of people believes something to be true, it is only a matter of time until the pendulum of opinion swings back in the other direction.

Think about investing in technology stocks back in the year 2000. Almost everyone believed that technology was going to radically change our lives, so we had to be invested there. The ensuing two years witnessed an almost 80 percent drop in the NASDAQ index. Or, more recently we saw consensus form around the idea that you couldn't lose money investing in real estate. We all know now that is not true.

Financial markets are a reflection of expectations about how things will be. They anticipate changes. At some point stocks will stop going down, and in fact will start to rise even in the face of bad news. Just as we are getting more depressed about increasing unemployment numbers and bankruptcy filings, the markets will be sniffing out the beginning of better times ahead.Most people are convinced that 2009 will be bad. As the preponderance of investors accept this as truth the pendulum of belief will begin to swing back in the other direction. New information, like improvements in the housing market for example, will hasten the process.

We have an incoming administration that is ready to act boldly, with the benefit of lessons learned from past crises. While the daily headlines may continue to be discouraging, the markets will eventually anticipate better times ahead. There is hope and potential for positive surprises in the year ahead.

Since I quit my job, back in 2001, to make money online I have been learning and writing articles. I haven't always gotten it right but I never gave up, like a few friends have done over the years. It's so easy to just copy others and I don't see any thing wrong with that. I learn from others daily. The key is to learn from others but make what you do unique by giving your very own perspective.

I have watched others that succeed online and I learn what I can from them but the goal is to catch them and even pass them in the search engine ranking but copying them won't do it. You need to be unique and then go the extra mile to do more, the search engines will reward you for your hard work.

3. Don't stop with just one article directory.

I don't use a lot of article directories these days as I have my favorites but there are a lot of them. Don't be afraid to use them.

That brings me back to the point about being unique. If you publish the same article in every article directory you use you won't get near the results you will get if you take the time to spin your main article into multiple unique articles.

4. Publish your main article in EzineArticles.com first.

In my opinion my favorite place to publish articles to make more money online is through EzineArticles.com but they are also the strictest one that I use and they won't publish duplicate content.

I write my article and once I am satisfied with it I publish it on EzineArticles. Once it has been accepted I am good to go publishing on other article directories.

I then take my main article and re-write it into as many unique articles as I need for the other article directories.

To make the articles work best I try to modify the content at least 30% or more, the more the betters.

NOTE: Getting my articles published on EzineArticles.com usually takes 2 days, so I have lots of time to work at making my other articles unique.

5. Make your link count.

I write articles but where I publish them I am not allowed to use affiliate links so instead I create posts on my blogs that are relevant and link to the affiliate programs there. I then link to my post page on my blog from my article signature.

Since I quit my job, back in 2001, to make money online I have been learning and writing articles. I haven't always gotten it right but I never gave up, like a few friends have done over the years. If it's not easier than working some people just don't want to be bothered and making money online is always as easy as it seems when other write about it, is it.

Writing articles and getting them published on the many article directories is a great way to make money online if you do it correctly. To make this strategy really work for you there are some things you can do.

1. Be sure you know your topic.

I have tried in the past to fake it till you make it but that didn't work. It seems that when I talk about things I don't know enough about I just look like someone that doesn't know what he's talking about but when I stick to a topic I know, like fly fishing, I get results that end in making money.

2. Be unique and thrive.

It's so easy to just copy others and I don't see any thing wrong with that. I learn from others daily. The key is to learn from others but make what you do unique by giving your very own perspective.

I have watched others that succeed online and I learn what I can from them but the goal is to catch them and even pass them in the search engine ranking but copying them won't do it. You need to be unique and then go the extra mile to do more, the search engines will reward you for your hard work.

3. Don't stop with just one article directory.

I don't use a lot of article directories these days as I have my favorites but there are a lot of them. Don't be afraid to use them.

That brings me back to the point about being unique. If you publish the same article in every article directory you use you won't get near the results you will get if you take the time to spin your main article into multiple unique articles.

4. Publish your main article in EzineArticles.com first.

In my opinion my favorite place to publish articles to make more money online is through EzineArticles.com but they are also the strictest one that I use and they won't publish duplicate content.

I write my article and once I am satisfied with it I publish it on EzineArticles. Once it has been accepted I am good to go publishing on other article directories.

I then take my main article and re-write it into as many unique articles as I need for the other article directories.

To make the articles work best I try to modify the content at least 30% or more, the more the betters.

NOTE: Getting my articles published on EzineArticles.com usually takes 2 days, so I have lots of time to work at making my other articles unique.

5. Make your link count.

I write articles but where I publish them I am not allowed to use affiliate links so instead I create posts on my blogs that are relevant and link to the affiliate programs there. I then link to my post page on my blog from my article signature.

Friends, it's just that easy.

Can you make money on the internet? Well the simple answer to that is yes you can, easily in fact. The problem is that the difference between making money and making enough money to make it worthwhile is huge. I recently put up an Autoblog website about films. I put on AdSense and some links to eBay and Amazon. Now I do nothing with the site and it earns me a small amount of money for every person that clicks on an advert. How much? Well it has currently paid me around $1 since I set it up around 3 months ago. So that's not exactly going to set the world on fire is it? I guess I could go mad and create another 1000 websites, but with the cost of domains and hosting even at that rate I would be losing money by the end of the year. I have to admit I am only letting the website run on autopilot for the moment until it has some decent rankings in the search engines, once it has that I can think about trying to monetize it more.

So how can you make effective money from the internet? Well you have to employ a series of strategies to spread your risk. For example I have a poker blog which earns a nice income from adverts from two advert suppliers. One of them recently changed its terms and conditions to no longer accept gambling related adverts. If the only thing I concentrated on was poker or gambling related sites, I could well have been looking at a substantial cut in income. 2008 saw a lot of stunning, almost apocalyptic events. People ask, "What else could possibly go wrong?" The prevailing view seems to be that the economy will get worse before it gets better. As we look out on the year ahead, it is easy to conclude that there are only storm clouds on the economic horizon. So, what are we to think when people start interpreting bad news as good?

A person I recently had coffee with remarked, "The best news I've heard lately is that the recession started a year ago." Her point was that we might already be at least halfway through the downturn. While it may be a bit early for outright optimism, I see several positives that could benefit investors in the year ahead. These are the incoming Obama administration, the lessons learned from past market catastrophes, and the prevailing negative psychology of investors. The last point refers to the notion that once everyone expects bad news, it can actually be good for the markets.

Though November now seems like a long time ago, I still recall the feelings of hope and elation people had following the election of Barack Obama. His victory felt like the first step into a more promising future while also marking a decisive conclusion to the last few dismal years. Regardless of individual political persuasions, optimism for the future is important. It gives us reason to keep going in the face of difficulty.

The incoming administration will be one of the best prepared in memory and will be quick to introduce legislation. Mr. Obama's economic stimulus package will likely approach one trillion dollars. Sometimes large numbers can lose their significance, but I can tell you, a one with 12 zeros after it is big!

We can also take comfort in the fact that the federal government and central banks have gained insights from the Great Depression and from the painfully slow unwinding of Japan's real estate bubble. Though each of these periods in history has its own unique set of circumstances, two points seem salient. Actions required to adequately address problems of such magnitude should be swift and substantial. Thus far, the actions of the world's central banks and governments indicate that they understand this.

When trying to predict what may happen tomorrow or next week people tend to extrapolate from current circumstances. So, as we experience a bad economy we expect it to continue to be that way. Today the consensus view is that the economy and markets will get worse before they get better. Here is where investor psychology comes into play; once a majority of people believes something to be true, it is only a matter of time until the pendulum of opinion swings back in the other direction.

Think about investing in technology stocks back in the year 2000. Almost everyone believed that technology was going to radically change our lives, so we had to be invested there. The ensuing two years witnessed an almost 80 percent drop in the NASDAQ index. Or, more recently we saw consensus form around the idea that you couldn't lose money investing in real estate. We all know now that is not true.

Financial markets are a reflection of expectations about how things will be. They anticipate changes. At some point stocks will stop going down, and in fact will start to rise even in the face of bad news. Just as we are getting more depressed about increasing unemployment numbers and bankruptcy filings, the markets will be sniffing out the beginning of better times ahead.Most people are convinced that 2009 will be bad. As the preponderance of investors accept this as truth the pendulum of belief will begin to swing back in the other direction. New information, like improvements in the housing market for example, will hasten the process.

We have an incoming administration that is ready to act boldly, with the benefit of lessons learned from past crises. While the daily headlines may continue to be discouraging, the markets will eventually anticipate better times ahead. There is hope and potential for positive surprises in the year ahead.

What an Olympic Champion Taught Me

Several years ago, I was training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. During my early morning work-out I noticed this guy squat-walking around the track with a tire full of sand or something around his neck. It was obviously very heavy.

I did not know who the guy was or what he did as an athlete. Finally, one day at lunch I happened to be sitting across the table from him. I introduced myself. His name was Eric. I said, "I see you doing the squat-walking every morning. That's incredible. What sport do you do?" And he said, "I'm a skater, you know, a speed skater." Eric seemed to be a very unassuming person.

The Conversation That Changed My Life

We were both young guys in our early 20s. We met a few more times at lunch and one day I asked him, "How're the Winter Olympics going to be looking for you?" And he said, "I'm doing well. My training is going well." I asked, "How are you going to do?" And he said, without a trace of ego or arrogance, "I think I'm going to win five gold medals." And I'm thinking, "5 gold medals! He's a crazy man!"

So I Asked ---

So I followed up by asking why he thought he would win five gold medals. His answer changed my life. It was:

"Because I train harder than anyone else in the world."

I look at his answer as giving himself a rational reason for the irrational belief that he could win five gold medals. Therefore, as long as he continued training harder, he'd be giving himself permission to believe he could win.

I also asked him about his competition in the various events. He told me something else that rocked me. He said:

"The competition is with myself."

Eric only competed with himself. With his goals. With his physical capacity. The "competition" did not exist in his world.

For those of us who are old enough to know, Eric Heiden went out and he did win five Olympic Gold Medals in the 1980 Winter Olympics and while doing this he set Olympic and world records.

Making money on your home is key to many of you. My clients report that they simply would not consider owning a home that they did not make some profit on. The thought of taking a check to closing is repulsive. Here is what I want you to know about making money on your home.

The obvious things about home ownership that make you money...

• The whole time that you live in a home, if it is your primary residence, you are saving on your taxes. In other words, you can either use your money to pay for a place to call your own that you are buying, or you can pay more taxes.

Since I quit my job, back in 2001, to make money online I have been learning and writing articles. I haven't always gotten it right but I never gave up, like a few friends have done over the years. If it's not easier than working some people just don't want to be bothered and making money online is always as easy as it seems when other write about it, is it.

Writing articles and getting them published on the many article directories is a great way to make money online if you do it correctly. To make this strategy really work for you there are some things you can do.

1. Be sure you know your topic.

I have tried in the past to fake it till you make it but that didn't work. It seems that when I talk about things I don't know enough about I just look like someone that doesn't know what he's talking about but when I stick to a topic I know, like fly fishing, I get results that end in making money.

2. Be unique and thrive.

It's so easy to just copy others and I don't see any thing wrong with that. I learn from others daily. The key is to learn from others but make what you do unique by giving your very own perspective.

I have watched others that succeed online and I learn what I can from them but the goal is to catch them and even pass them in the search engine ranking but copying them won't do it. You need to be unique and then go the extra mile to do more, the search engines will reward you for your hard work.

3. Don't stop with just one article directory.

I don't use a lot of article directories these days as I have my favorites but there are a lot of them. Don't be afraid to use them.

That brings me back to the point about being unique. If you publish the same article in every article directory you use you won't get near the results you will get if you take the time to spin your main article into multiple unique articles.

4. Publish your main article in EzineArticles.com first.

In my opinion my favorite place to publish articles to make more money online is through EzineArticles.com but they are also the strictest one that I use and they won't publish duplicate content.

I write my article and once I am satisfied with it I publish it on EzineArticles. Once it has been accepted I am good to go publishing on other article directories.

I then take my main article and re-write it into as many unique articles as I need for the other article directories.

To make the articles work best I try to modify the content at least 30% or more, the more the betters.

NOTE: Getting my articles published on EzineArticles.com usually takes 2 days, so I have lots of time to work at making my other articles unique.

5. Make your link count.

I write articles but where I publish them I am not allowed to use affiliate links so instead I create posts on my blogs that are relevant and link to the affiliate programs there. I then link to my post page on my blog from my article signature.

Friends, it's just that easy.

How to Achieve Financial Freedom With a Powerful Goal

Some of the most popular search terms on Google are about money and how to get it, often in a short amount of time. At some point in most of our lives we need or want more of it. But if financial freedom is our goal, just how do we make this work for us? How do we motivate ourselves to have the money that we want?

Most coaches and self-help books will teach you that goals need to be specific, measurable, realistic and time-based. This seems easy when it comes to money; we just state exactly how much we want (for example, a yearly or monthly income), how we're going to achieve it and by when we want to have it.

But just how powerful is the goal of a specific income? Is the achievement of money a goal in itself, or is there a more powerful goal we could use to pull ourselves forwards to financial freedom?

A large number of people searching on Google use the term, "I want money". There's nothing wrong with that, but when people start saying "All I want is money", I get a little dubious.

I don't know about you, but the idea of acquiring large amounts of pieces of coloured paper, or black figures on a bank statement does not really inspire me. Not as an ultimate goal.

What we tend to forget is that money itself is not the true motivator. When we say we want money, we are really saying that we want the things that money can buy. What those things are is a matter of personal choice. For some it might be material things such as a new car, a big country house or a yacht. For others it might be the ability to send their kids to university, or take four holidays a year, and for some it might just having a sense of security or freedom, or being able to contribute to charity. Or it might be a mixture of all of these.

These things are far more motivating to us than just having the tool to acquire them. After all, when a builder builds a house, does he only set his mind on acquiring trowels and hammers and all the other tools that are needed, or does he visualise the building that those tools will build? The answer to that is a no-brainer, yet many of us seem to do this when it comes to money.

Money is, in fact, no more than a tool. The builder needs his tools in order to build his house, but acquiring them is just a step in the process. Furthermore, if he only thought of how he was going to acquire the tools, I doubt he would ever be motivated to build a beautiful house.

In order to create the inspiration and motivation that will give us the key to getting the tools (i.e. money), we need to make our goal the thing that those tools will build for us.

Think about the joy and sense of achievement you will feel when you turn the key in the door of your new home, or when you see the delight on your children's faces when you take them to Disneyland, or the sense of freedom when you have a lifestyle where you no longer have to worry about meeting the monthly bills.

These are the goals that will get you out of bed every morning and get you taking the steps to make the money that will bring them to you.

You will, of course, need to be aware of how much money you will need in order to create these goals, but your money goal is now part of your action plan: a stepping stone on the way to your ultimate goal. When you visualise your goal, you will be visualising something real and personal: your house, your family's happiness, your own daily lifestyle in detail, in colour and with all the feelings that go with it.

It is far easier to visualise your goal when it is personal, than it is to visualise an income level. Your goal is now far more meaningful to you, and will set you on course for achieving financial freedom.

Instead of merely chasing money, you are now on a path to the life of your dreams.
